The Challenge Games 2019
What another FANTASTIC event we had this year. I think it was our biggest event yet with 1068 students attending from all over North Queensland. This year we had a few schools join us for the first time and we have received wonderful comments from these schools, who have said that they are keen to attend again next year. Each year we reflect on what a fantastic two day event the Challenge Games is; full of positive vibes.
The Challenge Games enables all children with a disability to have fun and participate in as many or as few events as they want. We give out over 12.000 ribbons each year and to see kids with ribbons pinned all over themselves is a real buzz.
This year we were lucky to have the 1 RAR band perform again at the opening ceremony and they were amazing. The precision and control was outstanding. Everyone loved the band and we hope to make this an annual event as well.
Hon Coralee O’Rourke Minister for Communities and Minister for Disabilities Services and Seniors represented the Premier of Queensland and officially opened The Challenge Games
One politician quoted, “The Challenge Games is a wonderful event and the only happier day within the year is Christmas Day.”
One child wore his ribbons for a whole month and another child at the same school said ,“That’s not the correct uniform.”
One teacher said, “The kids wait for this day all year.”
Mt Isa Special school said, “See you next year.”
The Challenge Games dates for next year are – 29 and 30 July 2020
The purpose of The Challenge Games is to provide two days of fun, friendship and participation in a range of sports and fun activities for school students who have a disability. These activities include running, jumping, throwing and team events plus many other fun/novelty activities. Students may participate in as many or few events as they wish, according to their own level of interest and ability.
The Challenge Games is run by a committee of dedicated individuals, sponsored by some fantastic businesses, and wouldn't be able to run without the donation of so much time by our team of volunteers.
The Challenge Games is being held on Wednesday 31st July and Thursday 1st Aug. Register today to guarantee your child a spot in North Queensland's only event of this nature.
All volunteers have to hold a blue card. It is free if you use the name 'The Challenge Games' as your organisation. Blue cards must be sighted on the day at The Challenge Games volunteers' tent. Click here to access the website.
