Event Times The Challenge Games (TBA)
The Gail Brodie Para-Athletics Trials provides an opportunity for Primary (10-12yrs) and Secondary (13-19yrs) school athletes to proceed to the Northern School Trials.
Athletes are required to be classified for this event and provide classification information when registering. Athletes will be given the opportunity to compete and provide classification information before advancing to the next stage of competition.
What is Classification:
- Classification is an assessment process that groups athletes with similar disabilities to create fair and meaningful competition. It evaluates how a disability affects an athletes ability to run, throw and jump in athletics. A classification identifies the severity of the impairment and its impact on performance, ensuring athletes with similar abilities compete against each other.
- Eligible physical impairments include conditions like hypertonia (eg. Cerebal Palsy, acquired brain injury), ataxia, athetosis, impaired muscle power (eg. spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy), impaired range of motion (eg. Arthrogryposis) limb deficiency (eg. amputation, dysmelia), leg length difference and short stature. Please note that a mimimal impairment criterion must be met for eligibility)
- For athletes with non physical impairments who wish to be assessed for classification, please click on the following link for further information. Para-Athletics & Multi Class Information
