PARA TRIALS REGISTRATION FORM

This online nomination form is for students that wish to compete in the Para trials  events at the Challenge Games. Para trial events allow students to compete in events where if the qualifiers are met, can use their challenge games performances to be selected to compete at the Queensland School State Athletics Championships in October.

Para trial events allow students to compete in events where if the qualifiers are met, can use their challenge games performances to be selected to compete at the Queensland School State Athletics Championships in October.

To compete as an para trial athlete, schools need to ensure that the following has been met:

  • The student has a classification – please refer to page 2 of this document
  • The school has completed their nomination form on page 3
  • Nominations must be received by the 21nd July 2017 Day registration will not be accepted.

As there are age limitations for Queensland States, the same does apply for the invitational at the Challenge Games. Students who are still at school are allowed to compete if they are the below age as of the 31 December of that year

  • 10, 11, 12 year olds                   – Primary School
  • 13 – 19 year olds                   – Secondary School

Note: Primary school ages cannot nominate / compete in the 400m

The Challenge Games Committee and School Sport strongly support students getting a classification and participating in a range of sports throughout North Queensland.

INFORMATION ON CLASSIFICATION

Background on Classification

In sport, classification exists so that athletes compete in fair and equal competition. Classification groups athletes according to how their disability impacts on their sport. Athletes compete against others with similar disabilities, so that the athletes who succeed do so on the basis of athletic performance. In Australia, classification is a free service that is available to any athlete that wishes to compete against others with a similar disability.

HOW TO GET A CLASSIFICATION

Physical Impairment

Athletics Australia is responsible for all physical impairment classifications. Athletics North Queensland, the regional body of athletics in the north has organised a classification opportunity during the Challenge Games. If athletes would like to get classified or be re-classified please go the 2017 on line registration www.thechallengegames.com.au. If an athlete does not have a classification before attending the games please write this on their nomination form.

Intellectual Impairment

AUSRAPID are the national organisation responsible for classifying athletes with an Intellectual Impairment. Athletes wishing to participate in athletics as an Intellectually impaired at national level events must complete the AUSRAPID National Eligibility Application form. Hearing Impairment

Deaf Sports Australia (DSA) is the national sports organisation that are responsible for Hearing Impaired classifications. Athletes wishing to obtain a classification as a Hearing Impaired Athlete, must first obtain an Audiogram. Athletes then must download and complete the Audiogram Classification Form and return it to DSA. Please return completed forms to Irena Farinacci at Deaf Sports Australia.
